T-STEM Designated Environmental Science & Engineering Academy

Be Part of Innovation  at Ysleta High School and Study Engineering!

The Environmental Science & Engineering Academy (ESEA) at Ysleta High School is one of the few elite schools in the city to receive the T-STEM designation from the Texas EducationAgency for the opportunities offered to students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is focused on providing the education and skills needed for a career in engineering and integrating environmental science and engineering principles in order to improve and manage the natural environment.

Possible Careers:

  • Agribusiness

  • Agricultural Engineer

  • Agricultural Supplies Manager

  • Animal Production

Environmental engineers use the principles of engineering, soil science, biology and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. As of July 2014, the salary range for a newly graduated environmental engineer with a bachelor's degree was $44,722 to $69,808. The range for a midlevel engineer with a master's degree and five to 10 years of experience was $65,890 to $106,126, and the range for a senior engineer with a master's or doctorate and more than 15 years of experience was $82,193 to $133,930.

It is predicted that the field of environmental engineering will grow by 15 percent from 2012 to 2022, which is faster than the average for all occupations. The YHS ESEA provides students the opportunity to learn to design, plan, and implement measures to prevent, control, or remediate environmental hazards through coursework in the STEM fields.

Robotics is the branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.

Students in the robotics pathway, will begin their adventure in robotics via placement in Engineering Concepts of Engineering. In robotics, students will learn how to program in C++, build obstacle courses to test their prototype, apply the engineering design process, learn about circuits, sensors and motors to prepare their robot for competition.  Students will be able to join the robotics club all four years, compete, and build relationships that will give them access into the robotics world and the many pathways it can lead into.

As of 2016, the salary range for a newly graduated engineer in the field robotics with a bachelor's degree is $62,527 to $88,190.  An engineer with a masters degree can earn as much as $114,920 and with a doctorate with 15 years of experience has the potential to earn $128,850.
