Emma Aveytia, the Student Council advisor at Hanks High School, has been named the 2024-25 High School Advisor of the Year for the El Paso regional area because of the outstanding service, time, and knowledge she has contributed toward student success in her role as a council advisor.
Through the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) statewide organization, Aveytia won the top honor for District 9, which encompasses the El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson, Jeff Davis, and Presidio counties. She will now go on to compete for TASC’s Eddie G. Bull State Advisor of the Year award.
Aveytia has been a Student Council advisor for 11 years, guiding the Hanks High School Student Council to win numerous awards, including Outstanding Student Council and Sweepstakes. She has held office at both the district and state levels as Parliamentarian, offering her students the opportunity to engage their leadership skills to the fullest potential.
Derek Whitman, a former student of Aveytia and TASC State Officer, describes her as an “extraordinary advisor whose dedication, love, and care” extend far beyond an advisor’s typical duties. He says Aveytia “goes the extra mile to ensure each student’s success, creating a supportive and nurturing environment where all feel valued. Always ready to lend a helping hand, she inspires not just academic growth, but personal development, leaving a lasting impact."
TASC is the largest state student council organization in the United States, with more than 1,200 member schools.
