The Ysleta Independent School District is proud to announce that three student-athletes from Riverside High School signed their letters of intent Wednesday to play in intercollegiate athletics next fall.

Sophiya Bustillos, who set a new all-time scoring record for the school with more than 2,000 points in her high school career, has committed to play basketball at Sul Ross State University, an NCAA Division II school in Alpine.

In her time at Riverside High School, Sophiya was twice named the 2-4A Most Valuable Player and is an El Paso Times All-City player. Last year, the El Paso Girls Coaches Association named Sophiya its Player of the Year; and currently, she is one of six finalists for the Dave Campbell State Player of the Year award. Over the past four years, she has helped lead the Rangers to back-to-back District and Bi-District championships, as well as an Area championship last year. This year, the Lady Rangers enjoyed a stellar season with 31 wins and two losses – the best record in school history.

Riverside High School football player Devan Quintana, a three-time District champion and two-time Bi-District champion, has committed to play at Western New Mexico University, an NCAA Division II school in Silver City, N.M.

Devan is a three-year starter who was part of the Rangers’ Area championship team and the Sweet 16 playoff team. He was named a 2022 All-City Honorable Mention and a 2023 District Division 1-4A Lineman of the Year, and was a member of the All-Star Game for Blue Thunder in 2023.

Gibby Poblano, captain of the Riverside High School baseball team and All-District baseball player, has committed to play for Hesston College in Hesston, Kan. Gibby is a second-year varsity player who helped lead the Rangers to a District and Bi-District championship in 2023 and was named to 1st Team All-District 1-4A Utility in 2023.
